This the the model with 6 memory slots, so there was a possiblity for 24GB of RAM. When I populate the remaining slots 4, 5 & 6 with 4GB DIMM, I get errors on boot up for the newly populated slots. I am unable to configure for 24GB.

DDR3 are relatively cheap, even those with error checking and correction. Install the expansion cards, connect the keyboard and monitor. This has an earlier stepping B3, which is in the v1 motherboard and a later stepping C2, which is in the v2 motherboard , each with individual sSpec codes. The first reply gives you an old Z QuickSpecs that is very early, not a more recent one that covers your "version 2" Z workstation. Do not fool people.

I am unable to configure for 24GB. The system has been running fine with the 3x4GB setup. Thanks for any help you can offer. It is not possible to install standard PC and server memory, I've never seen a system of any brand which supports such a configuration.
I can install 3 of them for 12 GB, but cannot install all 6 for 24 GB configuration. I have found I can populate skipping slot 2 and it works, however I don't know how much this affects optimum performnce. Before we go further, I need more information about the modules brand, model, voltage, timings. I tried swapping out different sticks of RAM to see if one was bad - no difference, all errored when put into slot 2.
Remove all expansion cards, memory modules and connectors from the system board, then take the whole assembly out. Then put the battery back in its socket, put the system board assembly back into the case and reconnect everything.
As soon as the power supply is fed with AC voltage, the system will fire up and do an extended power on self test. Two error messages will appear soon, reporting that the system time is not set and the system settings are invalid. ISO file. USB Flash Disk. Didn't find what you were looking for? Ask the community. He casued A LOT of confusion around here with these false claims. I cannot judge whether this guy SDH was posting these false claims maliciously or simply by his deep incompetence. It gives 5 beeps, pause, 5 beeps, and on. So, I must raise the concern that it may not work for all version 2 Zs also.
Each of these workstations has the latest BIOS and updates. No unusual high powered video cards, etc. The Zs have been working fine with these sticks for months now. These same sticks also worked very well in the one Z version 1 workstation I tried them in. It is not that simple The first reply gives you an old Z QuickSpecs that is very early, not a more recent one that covers your "version 2" Z workstation. My latest Z QuickSpec version is v The base chipset is the , codenamed TylersburgD.
This has an earlier stepping B3, which is in the v1 motherboard and a later stepping C2, which is in the v2 motherboard , each with individual sSpec codes. This information is from both HP and Intel documents. Why is this important? The v2 is later, better and lets you use unbuffered memory and in the case of the Z 2 more memory slots, and more. The v1 motherboards do not let you use unbuffered memory.
The v2 motherboard can support both the 55xx and 56xx Xeon processors, and thus you must have a v2 given that you're running a W the correct name for your processor. The v1 Zs can only properly support the 55xx Xeon processors. Both versions want ECC memory. The v1 wants unbuffered memory too it wants both ECC and unbuffered. The v2 wants ECC and can take both buffered or unbuffered.
Don't mix buffered and unbuffered. This memory and version stuff all applies also to the Z and Z workstations. I've even seen a bit faster memory performance results from the buffered ones, but only by a bit. More important is to fill all 6 slots with identical RAM.
